AC replacement

I had a guy check my AC and he said the compressor is shot.. I'm sure all the parts are original as is everything I've fixed so far. He gave me a list of parts to completely replace the AC in the car and it came to 900$ from autozone I believe. Seems crazy. I have windows. They roll down. Ill save my 900$. But my dog can't deal well with the heat and would limit me on the hot days for cruising with him. Any ideas on what parts would or could need it? Any brands specific? I see compressors on eBay for 150$ and the autozone denso brand was 375$ by itself. I'm guessing I could hunt deals all day and save almost half but my guy doesn't recommend anything but oem... Any other thoughts would be nice. He said he pressure tested it and it blew out the seals on the compressor and spilt dye onto the ground.

Umm what all did the so called mechanic say needed to be replaced? If the compressor is shot all you need to replace is the compressor and the receiver/dryer. Last compressor I bought for a 4th gen was about $160 from advanced auto.

That's why I'm asking because I know I can score compressors for 130-180$. He said it would be about 120$ for the oil and fridge rent.

It's a link to eBay compressor 140$ and I found the drier tube for 42$. Any other parts that may be bad after 135k miles. Condenser?

Condensors don't wear out.

My old car have 3.8 engine with 235k on it. Ac compression ratting loud so I went to junkyard to pull it off myself paid 50 bucks and going to my dads shop. Ac blow cold and work great till I sold it its was 268k. 30k miles on junkyard ac for 50 bucks. Not bad... I just suggest look for look like newer like shiny ac part so I knew its newer replacement than a dirty covered ac.

I found a eBay seller with an entire replacement kit for 179$ shipped. Going to have a good local guy do it. Anyone from Milwaukee know how to replace the drier compressor o rings and recharge?

I've never done it on a car. Only houses, rofl sorry. I've filled vehicles before but never replaced anything and pulled a vacuum on a car. I'm pretty much the only active Milwaukee members on here really.
