i want to know what will be causing these 2 problems. i bought the car being told the light was becuase of an o2 problem or something. i will tell you that i can hear the cat/ exhaust rattle and there it is broken with pieces or something inside it.

is this at all related to the codes and how can i home diagnos these without buying 10 differnt parts and wasting time

P1441 is an EVAP system code. I would start with checking the gas cap and gasket around it for cracks, dry rot, ect.

P0301 is a cylinder 1 misfire. I would start with checking/replacing the plugs and wires. While this could be because of a cat or O2 problem, there more things likely to cause it, and a cat or O2 would throw its own code in most cases.

can these 2 codes be related? i saw the one being a misfire, could the evap code be making the car run rich and setting off a missfire?

im going to check the gas cap and the grommet around it to see if it looks crazy or not right. what should the next step be?

also the previous owner said his coworkers did scan and said its a o2 problem. who knows if thats true but i can definitely tell you the cat sounds broken either way.

PS THE CODE P1441 POSTED TWICE AT AZ SCANNERS.

Not really related.
If there was an issue with an O2 sensor, there would be an O2 sensor code.

P1441 Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) system flow during non-purge
First thing to check is the gas cap seal aka O ring.
The system isn't air tight.

I had the same EVAP code and it was because I didn't have the right gas cap on the car. Got the right one, code never came back.

Check for cracked rubber tubing going to the evap solenoid located on the engine.
Mine was cracked and I could smell gas fumes.

Checked the gas cap. Seems fine the little rubber ring on the cap looked to be in good shape. Didnt look like it was dried out or anything crazy.

As far as checking the evap piece. I here people say evap canister purge valve or solenoid. Which is which or are they the same thing on the 3.8. And if not which would be the problem to check and where are they or what do they look like.

Ps i really appreciate all the help
