Hey guys, just got my first camaro and have been working on it, just needed a second opinion. I have a 96 v6, 3800, I've recently replaced the air filter and fuel lines, but it has this almost bubbling noise, or the noise when someone is slurping out of a straw, coming from the intake manifold and it's causing the idle to drop. It's running fine above 1500 rpm but as soon as it drops below 900-1100 it runs rough. I've been told it's a vaccuum leak from the line that runs to the evap purge, but that doesn't seem to be the problem. It also has a noticeable gas smell, not horrible but noticeable. Any ideas?
Your injector o-rings may be leaking vacuum the computer uses vacuum measurements to adjust a/f ratio along with other measurements
I would use carb clean to spray around the intake and find the leak
Is the carb clean is sucked In by the leak the motor will jump in rpms this will help u triangulate the area
Ultimately you will have to look listen and feel for the leak using the carb clean as a guide spraying little squirts in areas till u find it
Listen for a small hissing noise and follow the fuel smell
First try finding what side of the motor it's on then whether it's in the front or back .. Use the vacuum digram on ur radiator support or good as a guide to check your vacuum lines but I would start with fuel related parts going to the manifold going by the smell
You can also buy bubbles and put it in a spray bottle and spray it in areas u think it may be leaking listen for sucking noises as you spray little areas ..
Okay so now i have a new problem. It seems like the fuel lines i just installed have pressure built up that its causing my fuel pump to make a hissing sound like a sprinkler, when i remove the fuel lines the fuel pump sounds fine and sprays a good amount of gas, but once i replace the fuel line it makes the sprinkler sound again from the fuel pump. Are the lines i just bought bad?
Thats what I thought as well, I changed the fuel filter and it runs exactly the same, however the fuel pump doesnt sound like its forcing gas anymore.
I also changed my PCV valve, and there is this awful knocking coming from underneath the car on the passenger side. The pcv valve cover looked like it was cracked a bit, could that be the vacuum leak?
Put a new seal on the PCV, did a smoke test and theres no smoke coming out anywhere, still a bubbling/slurping noise coming from the section starting from the air filter to the intake manifold. The knocking is gone, and it drives okay when i barely push on the gas, but its still got the rough idle and misfiring.
Have you checked the intake ducting between the filer and throttle body for leaks?
Have you checked for vacuum leaks using Gumout as was recommended?
