A couple issues....Not sure where to post but here it is...

I'm new here so if this is in the wrong place I'm sorry but I need help!!!!!
I have a 95 base 3.4 standard transmission....
First off my baby (I love this car more than I like most people) will start to run a little warm and I'll turn on the defrosters and if you are idling the car will almost jerk the rpms will drop by about 2-300 and then resume idling fine. It is almost as if the thermostat is stuck but is then opening. I just put a new cold air into her because the idiot I bought it from just had a cold air filter running off the stock intake. I have read that the 4th generation had a problem with too much air pressure on the thermostat that could cause over heating? Please tell me this is the problem and not my head gasket?...
Also 90% of the time the car will not start on the first try you have to turn the key to start then back a few times but will always start. Can hear clicking. I was told by a friend who had a 97 firebird that the exhaust manifolds were set too close to the starter and can heat the selinoids (however you spell it) but that doesn't make since to me. New battery. New alternator. Could the starter possibly need the connections cleaned? There was a bad oil leak underneath from a clogged oil filter and haven't had time to clean it all up.
Please help. I can do the work but don't want to throw away money either.

Air pressure has nothing to do with the thermostat.
The thermostat is in the cooling system.


The reason it might be getting warm is because with the AC or defroster off, the cooling fans don't turn on until 221 for low speed fans and 235 for high speed fans.


When the A/C is on, the fans run at low speed until temp hits 235 ands then the high speed fans kick in


When moving over 40 MPH the fans are always off

If you have "air pressure" opening your thermostat, that's a problem. You'd have warped heads too.

So it jerks when you turn on the defrost at idle? Does it do it when you turn on the AC too? Whatever the case, it doesn't like the extra load that creates. I've heard on other cars that this could be something as simple as a dirty throttle body--they've also been Chevys so it's worth a try.
