need help 97 z28

I'm new here and have some questions. 1st problem my 97 z28, I have to push down on gas pedal for my car to start. 2nd problem at dead stop when I smash the gas car hesitates bad backfires then goes.

Check your fuel filter

Both of your problems sound like they are symptoms of a failing optispark. Mainly the second I can tell you with 99% certainty is due to carbon tracking in the opti.
