PCM or solenoid, or linkage issue.
Need to read codes or take it to a tranny shop.

Car sat up all winter before I was able to get it from the guy I bought it from and i know the solenoid/ valves sometimes get stuck... Where is it located and can I get to it w/o dropping the trans?

You can get to the solenoids and the valve body by dropping the transmission pan. If its a problem in the valve body I would recommend taking it to a trans shop.

Will it shift out of first if you try to shift it manually?

Have you scanned the PCM for codes?
You also might try resetting the PCM by removing the ECM/PCM fuse for a few minutes.
It's in the end of dash fuse panel.

Are the speedometer and tach working correctly?

You need to scan the PCM for codes.

Since you have a 95 it's hard to tell which scan tool you need.
95s are OBD1 but some have the OBDII connector which makes them need a special cable to scan them.

By any chance did you recently change your gear ratio? If so that could be the problem.
