01 Camaro v6 cruise speed surge problem

I have a 2001 Camaro with the 3.8L engine and automatic transmission. When at highway speeds and the car goes up a hill or I start a slow pass of another vehicle the car starts to surge kinda like it cannot make it's mind on wheter it needs to down shift or not. I can make it down shift by pressing on the accelerator and it runs fine.
I have replaced the plugs and wires that did not make any difference. I was going to replace the TBPS but I have not found one. thinking now about replacing the throttle body. The car also does not do it all of the time, 50-50 maybe.
Under normal flat road driving or quick acceleration that forces a downshift quick the car runs normal.

Test the coil packs and ICM. Also when you replaced your plugs you used iridium plugs right?

Also did you gap the plugs when you installed them?

not sure why you question the fluids but they are all fine, I'm pretty sure I used platium pllugs and I did check the gap.
How do you test the coil packs and the ICM.
I never questioned the ignition because it runs well and gets 24-27 mpg. Scoots good when I want her to. Problem is when a highway speeds around 1500rpm and it starts up a hill she surges.

Problem is more than likely the plugs. 3.8s came with iridium plugs from the factory and for whatever reason don't run well with any other type of plug.

Edit: you can test the coil packs by using a multimeter to measure the resistance on the primary and secondary windings. To test the ICM take it to a parts store they can test it there, have them run the test several times to get heat in ICM, they show symptoms of failure when they are heat soaked.

It also may be worth while to do a fuel pressure test, a bad check valve in the pump can also cause similar symptoms.

thied the iridium plugs and it runs like it did on platimums, still acts like it wants to down shift. what part in the car triggers the transmission to downshift? it is all electronic. Runs like a top at all speeds except when the rpms are falling below 2000 and it starts getting a load like going up a hill or I do a slow pass.

NGK TR55 are not iridium and the most popular for the 3800.

and the 99 + doesn't have a serviceable tps, its part of the TB.

the MAF going bad can cause the same problem you describe, try driving with it plugged for a short drive, if it goes away your MAF is bad.
