Way too much info missing here. What engine? What are your realistic power goals? What mods are already done, and what are your future planned mods? Daily driver or track car? And if the engine has high mileage you are going to want to do a top end refresh at minimum.

sorry for the little info there is about 142 thousand miles on the engine as of right now and it is my daily driver so a smooth idle would be nice. the engine is the 3.8l v6 and it is completly stock as of right now. im planning on doing msd ignition. along with headers but thats all the mods that are going into the engine so far. other mods that are in the works are exhaust cold are induction shift kit and possible new gears if any of that matters. i dont really how a planned power output.

With that kind of mileage, any kind of "more than mild" cam is going to start detonating your valvetrain...if you do a major valvetrain and head buildup, you run the risk if detonating the bottom end...not to mention the more "spirted driving" habits you will adopt with the added power...

At that mileage the motor has "settled in" to what its daily uses require it to do...if you need it as primary transportation, I wouldn't do it.

Too many miles to go throwing a bunch of mods at. I'd either LS swap it or get a cheap l26 or l36 with low mile age and build that while u drive the car. For cams there's a quite a few choices the gt2, gt1, abbots racing heads cam, intense racing has a few cams, then there a few places to get a custom ground cam for your application. It all depends on what you want out of your 3.8. Then u gotta figure , if u go anything bigger than the gt1 . U need a new timing chain, springs, pushrods, etc.

the basics you need when doing the GT2 cam, and I only had 91k miles at the time on my engine.

-Tuned with HPtuners
-ZZP GT2
-LS6 #90 yellow springs
-pushrods
-INTENSE Re-usable Rocker Arm Bolts
-Timing Chain
-Timing Chain Damper
-Manley Performance Valvespring Retainers
-lifters
-Headers
-cat or delete
-cat back or custom exhaust
-plugs and wires
-gaskets/tools etc etc

heres a really good how to http://www.dxsoftware.com/magnus/v6headscam.htm

my list

-Tuned with HPtuners
-Full cold air intake by chromeintake's
-ZZP GT2 Cam 216°/216° at .050" 111 LSA
-LS6 #90 yellow springs
-Comp pushrods 7.05 5/16 .080" thickness
-INTENSE Re-usable Rocker Arm Bolts
-JP Performance Single Timing Chain/damper set
-Manley Performance Valvespring Retainers
-Comp OE lifters
-EGR delete
-Pacesetter Headers
-cat delete
-2.5" S,I and over the axle pipe.
-Borla PRO XS
-3.5" SS tips
-NGK TR55 spark plugs
-MSD 8.5MM Super Conductor Ignition Wires #32799
-180 Thermostat

I don't DD my car and I don't think I would want to now, mainly during the winter cause the cam does not like it.

What's funny is mine tends to do rather well. Fires up first crank, doesn't die after even when it is well below freezing and it's been sitting outside at work for 10 hours.

My compression probably helps with that a little bit

Mine starts up rough when it's cold and below freezing my take to try's to start. An I still have that surging and voltage drop issues like letzride did.

Wonder if it's the 98 and earlier pcm+IAC valve stuff. I don't have any shutdown or voltage drop issues off throttle either. I am running that voltage booster and big wire kit from ZZP though.

Blackout, I do daily drive mine. 20mpg+ in the city with a T-56. There's a few things I haven't ironed out in my tune that needs to be done on the dyno, but it starts up, idles and runs fine.

That and more.

My most comprehensive build thread: LINK

It's got a lot of content, grab a drink and a snack and have fun. Feel free to take notes and pay attention to final advice, personal discoveries, etc. etc.

maybe, I know letzride never figured out the voltage issue on his and he tried everything.

I only have problems with idle and surging when it gets cold, maybe next time I get the hpt cable form Scott you can take a look and see if you see something that no one else has noticed or thought about.

I daily drove mine and it ran like a champ.

2006 Grand Prix L26 3800 Series III Long Block
GT2 Cam
Comp OE Lifters
Comp Hi-Tech Push Rods
Comp 105# Springs
Manley Steel Retainers
Mann's Speed Shop pocket porting on the heads
ARP Head Studs
High Flow Fuel Systems 255lph pump
Pace Setter Headers
Dynomax Bullet Muffler 2.5"
Whisper Lid
B&M Trans Cooler 70265
S-10 Stall
B&M Transpak Stage 1 shift kit
SLP Billstein Shocks
Eibach Prokit

The Comp Extreme Energy cams are pretty damn mild, more mild than anything ZZP, or INTENSE sells. 3800performance carries them.

- Exhaust Lift = .312 (.496 lift with stock 1.6:1 rocker ratio)
- Lobe Separation = 110.0

X Energy 2
- Duration at .050 = 201 degree intake/205 degree exhaust
- Intake Lift = .312 (.496 lift with stock 1.6:1 rocker ratio)
- Exhaust Lift = .300 (.480 lift with stock 1.6:1 rocker ratio)
- Lobe Separation = 112.0

ZZP GT1
