Engine rattle/knock

To understand the issues im having you'll need to know some back ground. The car is a 1996 Camaro 3.8, The motor had blown a head gasket because previous owners were idiots. The motor was completely rebuilt, shaved heads, .020 bore, new crank, pistons, every gasket in it is new and good clearances on all bearings and journals. The car has this rattle/knock sound at idle and when you rev it up a couple hundred past idle it smooths a bit. It maintains proper oil pressure. Last thing i think it could be is the balance shaft and of it is, is it gonna do bad things to my motor or cause other reliability issues? Or will it not be much of a problem? Can I just live with it sounding like a VW golf diesel? What else could it be or be caused by? Thanks if you can help out.
