Engine swap??

I have a 1999 firebird. If I was to swap out the engine for a V8, like the 1999 V8, what would I need to do? Swap any other parts? And what's the price?

You'll need the things in this link. Prices vary from new or used, if you get a hook up, etc. Its not cheap to do, but it's doable. If you can geta 99 engine and harness w/pcm, it should be plug and play. You would just need to upgrade your tranny and rearend from there.

3.4/3.8 V6 to LS1

You need a kmember, complete engine with accessories, pcm, tranny, guages, mounts.

The rear is the same as a v8, just prolly has smaller gears

It's alot of work, if you can't do all the work yourself you would be better off selling the v6 and buying a v8 because labor would murder you. You need a complete engine pullout from a trans am or camaro. Transmission, wireing harness, ECM. There's multiple threads covering most of the parts on this site as well

It's a whole lot of work if been collecting parts for my ls1 swap on my 94 Camaro v6. It's come along pretty good but has taken a long time to get to where it is now and I still haven't put the ls1 in. For your swap you will need I member, transmission, PCM, wire harness, fuel lines or corvette fuel filter would probably get rid of the two piece drive shaft and get the one piece aluminum ones. For the rear end I changed the 3.23 stock v6 gears to the 3.42 gears that came in Camaro SS and trans am ws6 stock. You can check out my swap thread it's got information from pretty much everyone on parts, costs.

I believe the wiring from 98 to 99 is not the same. Some of the wires in the plugs will have to be repinned. If I remember correctly it was 98, 99/00 and 01/02 for the years that have the same wiring.

99/00 wiring harness pins are the same, 98 is different than all of them. 01/02 are the same also. youre right
