New guy here clutch problem

Si i have a 97 3.8 5spd camaro i got the car for 500 bucks because the kid had lost the keys i was told it had a new clutch. Ive been driving it since the end of summer but since day one the car has play in the petal you can move it befor it does anything. but here is my consern the car acts funny it surges like the clutch grabs and slips, but i raced a mustang the other day and a following friend said he could really smell clutch when he was behind me. I dont know if i should replace the clutch or the master and slave both might be factory with 166665 miles on it idk if i can trust the kid saying it had a new clutch. Thankyou

$500 cos he lost the keys? Ooooookaaaaaaaaaayyy.......
Car looks like its been rode hard and put up wet. But seriously, How's the clutch fluid look? Is it black? Sounds to me like the clutch could be toast.

It sounds to me as if the clutch slave has air in it and needs to be bled.

Takes twp people one person in the car and the other person under it, to "Slightly" open the bleed screw on the slave while the other holds the clutch down.
The car should be level while doing this.

Like mentioned there is air in the clutch system or or it's worn out. One of my buddies GTOs clutch has always released at the top of the peddle and he has best the shit out of it like 3k launches power shifting etc and its just fine so that doesn't mean much. Also street racing discussion is not allowed here so since you are a noob you get the benefit of the doubt this one time but this is your warning.
