My 98 Camaro 3.8l smells like oil whenever I drive. I can smell it when I have the windows open. Isn't too bad.
Smoke coming out whitish too.
I'm afraid that I won't be able to pass emissions because of this.
Emissions could be the least of your issues but most likely it's just blow by. Look for leaks and look up torque specs on the bolts on the manifold and valve cover and make sure they're tight. Could also be leaked oil on the block and when you drive it gets hot and smells. Is smoke coming out from the exhaust?
If the exhaust is coming from the exhaust there there are a lot of possibilities. Is there a lot of smoke? Also pull the oil dipstick and check the condition of the oil.
That sounds pretty normal for used oil. I believe white exhaust is a sign of the engine running lean but I'd let one of the other members confirm that. I'm not 100%sure
Thick may be a heavy weight that is fully used.
Milky means collant is entering it and you may have head gasket leaking or internal leakage.
Burnt black and shiny is bearing slowly going out aka metal flakes or sparkles.
As Korndog stated lets get that nasty oil and old filter out of there and run it awhile with fresh oil. Are you sure the smoke is just not steam from the engine warming up.ldman:
If u smell burning oil and see smoke come out lil from under ur car. I'm sure it's ur engine oil pan leaking a lil and lands on exhaust pipe hence u get the burning oil smell and smoke
Damn, new member coming in and showing everyone up lol. In all really nice call man, op do you know how to fix that?
