quick question

i have aquired a free 5 speed camaro that grinds when shifting into second, and every once and while into reverse, if u shift slowly its fine, im thinking the second gear syncro is buggered up, is it hard to change? im going to covert my camaro to 5 speed due to transmission problems.

Honestly I would just go and buy a tranny. Say you find one for $6-700 and then you can keep it and enjoy it, or if you really wanted to, you could perhaps go sell it for a lot more

Year? Model? Any more info on the car?

The tranny needs a total rebuild.

the car is a 1997 chev camaro 30th aniversary 3.8 v6, the transmission thats in it now has no 3rd or overdrive, id rather 5 speed any day of the week, ive also done some modifcation such as a cam, and turbo and head work, to swap it in im not to worried i have the full donor car, i am basiclly looking at changing the synco for first and second the reverse grind is normal t5 thing that ive read all over the place.

Is the donor the exact same year and engine as your car?
I ask because you will need the PCM and tranny wiring harness out of it for your car.
As for the tranny, If you're going to go to the trouble of disassembling it, rebuild it completely

96 and 97 PCMs are interchangeable (you just need to swap them) and you dont need a new harness for the swap, you just need to slightly modify the current harness

The tranny harness for a 4l60E and a T5 are totally different.
He needs to swap the entire harness.

I think the 4th gens could have 3.23 gears and be posi. I remember reading about the gu5 rpo code(3.23) being an option on the z28 which is posi.
