Sequential turning signals in NY state

Hi guys, I'm new to the forums and the Firebird as well, I got a 99 a couple months ago. I'm posting on this new thread because I really could not find the answer I'm looking for. I'd like to install the sequential turning signal kit from webelectricproducts but i'm getting different opinions from local car guys I know, meaning that I'm not sure if these lights would get me in trouble, specially the 1 sequence the brake lights will have. Is there anybody that lives in NY and has this kit installed? Will I get pulled over because of the sequencial brake light?
I know there's supposed to be a way to get rid of the sequence for the brake light but I dont like the idea of running a wire all the way to the dash (am I right?) and I really like to keep this feature.
I live in a small town in upstate NY (way up) and I know if I ask the DMV, the moment I mention "modfication" they'll say NO, no matter what it is, very closed minded pple there! I also asked a city cop I know about this being legal and he said he wasnt sure, this for me is a NO!
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated and sorry if this has been asked before, go easy on me please.

Champlain valley, top right corner border with Vermont and Canada. It just surprises me that there are a bunch of firebirds and trans ams around but none of them with sequentials. Legality might be the reason. I've been waiting to come accross one of them to ask too.

they should be legal because some cars come with it from the factory and i doubt they would care if they are different from original as long as they preformed as well as original. if this is basically what you are thinking http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kow0aethFjg though dont take my word for it

Worst thing that could happen is you get s ticket for it. And just have to remove it. And they drop the ticket and you resell the kit on eBay. I'm in NY. I highly doubt you get a ticket, but its not too terrible if you do. And what exactly is a sequential brake light. Like the tail lights light up in order when stepping on the brake? Or they flash quick and the stay solid upon braking?

All right! So I should be fine, we'll see hehe. And for the ones that dont know about the kit, brake lights go through one sequence to then stay lit until pedal is released. I also went to a very strict state inspection station and they told me they dont see any problems with lights like that as long as they are not tinted. But now i have some bad news and my sequential lights will have to wait, I just found a messy power steering fluid leak dripping pretty good down one of the hoses, wonder how much that's gonna cost me.
Thanks to everybody for your posts.

Sequentials are legal in NY State. Owned a '68 Cougar that came factory with sequencials. They ended up in the rear of '68 Mustang Fastback. As long as they work, it's no problem.
