slp lid on 02 3.8

I recently put my slp lid zzp performance tube and k&n filter on my 02 bird. Now every so often i get 2 codes that come up that are bank 1&2 lean codes. I dont have the exact number code off the top of my head. Is there a way the computer will learn the new amount of air coming in? If not, is there a way to fix the problem without removing the new intake and putting the stock back on?

Seriously doubt it's the lid causing the codes. Did you plug in your IAT sensor?

Disconnect battery for 10 minutes then reconnect. Will reset fuel trims.

Yes i did but plugged it back in.

I will try resetting the trims but im not sure why all of a sudden it would throw lean codes.

Is everything snug around the intake? Spray some intake cleaner around the tubing and intake manifold. See if you got a vacuum leak somewhere because that will cause the fuel trims to go lean since its after the TB and MAF. Also to, the fuel pump may be loosing its capacity to hold good pressure.

I would be interested in finding out what your fuel trims are at an idle and while driving on the highway at say 55-65 mph under load.

I had 2 f-bodies in recently at the shop, both 3.8's that were throwing lean codes. One had good fuel pressure under idle and good fuel trims at an idle, but once in motion and highway the fuel pressure was dropping to 30/45 psi intermittently for awhile at times and the trims went lean. (yes I drove it on the highway with a gauge duct-taped to the windshield). As a result, the code came up lean. The other vehicle had lean trims at an idle and as you drove it under a load the trims would go towards normal. Everything seemed plugged in. Sprayed some intake cleaner around the intake at an idle, vehicle stalled and the intake plenum to manifold gasket was leaking. Both caused lean codes, 2 different fixes.

You could also have a pair of front o2 sensors that are getting lazy/weak and intermittently stick lean. I would also suggest a good fuel system cleaner like BG's 44k (roughly $20), cleans injectors and the valves good and also helps clean up the O2's I have found. I have also gotten a lot of catalyst monitors to run with that stuff to help pass our emissions testing here in NY.

I hope this helps you. Lean codes can take some time to diagnose. Hopefully it is just a simple fix like something is not snug.

So slp lid fit good on 3.8 and wat year is it? I want do slp lid on my 98 3.8L camarro but I been doing research and slp lid doesn't fit on 98 v6 camaros/firebirds cuz v6 throttle body angles down and it isn't a 98mm inlet pipe on throttle body

Apart from the SLP lid being made for the V8, it's also less restrictive, & slightly larger.

so more air flow and less resistance. gives a few hp and more response times?

The lid and tubing are before the tb/maf so even a poor seal wouldnt affect the readings, just non filtered air. But yeah I can't imagine adding a lid could ever cause those codes..

And the differences between stock lid and SLP lid is the slp lid is slightly taller, the opening is much larger too. Combine they with the zzp intake tubing ($10 online) and you can delete the air baffle/silencer. Nice upgrade for stock

Yes it is, and thanks for hooking me up with the tube. I sprayed intake cleaner and when it hit the egr it cut the engine off. So im pretty sure my egr gasket is shot. Will fix it asap and let yall know.

Haha I'm probably just going to put my stuff up on e-bay after the turbo build is done and watch the bidding war commence.

Whisper lid, longtubes, all that stuff

Look closely at the EGR tubes, my 97 cracked and caused the 2 lean codes.
