'89 Camaro VATS Ign lock Stuck in "Run" position????

Have my old '89 Camaro with a VATS key and one day it decided NOT to shut off... Stuck in "Run" position.

Before I tear into the column, could this be a VATS problem OR something else.

To move the car, I have to hook the battery back up, start the car, move it then unhook the battery and pull the plug on the ALT. Major Pain in the Butt.

Anyone else had this happen?????

HELP!

not the vats. try changing the ignition switch there fairly cheap and easy to change 2 bolts and a plug on the column.mine did the same thing but once in a while it would stick where the stasrter would turn after the eng was running ( most god awful noise in the world)

Does the key move or is the key out and it runs huge difference between the two.

The key, lock cylinder and switch only moves from the Run position to Start and the key won't come out.

As said, I can start the car to move it but have to unhook cable and ALT to shut it off.

Sounds like the key cylinder or switch is bad.
You can't remove the key or turn off the car with the key cos the key won't go in the off position.

Could be a switch, I've also seen some ignitions lock up when the lever going from the shift module is broken or warn. I had a GM Car that I had to go into the column and use a zip-tie to zip-tie the rod that locks the key. It made it so the key came out whether it was in gear or not, but it did fix the problem.

Yeah it was the lock cylinder stuck in the Run position.

So since I could not get the key out to get the resistance for the VATS pellet, I bought a $15.00 regular lock cylinder, pulled the VATS lock cylinder out, left it in the run position and stashed it under the dash so it continues to read the key chip properly.
