blown engine

My 350 I put in my 92 RS lost compression in no. 1. It hasn't been in but about a year. It was oil fouling no. 1 and no.8. Was fighting the rebuild but couldn't any longer. Pulled the head and found out it hadn't been reworked like I was told. Supposed to have been bored over with a cam just shy of having to use a stall. Haven't got to the cam yet but can only guess. Money went to his motor I guess. Plan to rebuild with Vortec heads and intake and a good cam. Maybe it will run like it should have. Wish me luck.

Well, bad news got worse. Pulled the oil pan and found 4 burned pistons. There were no inserts in any of them. The crank is screwed. Guess I'm lookin at a whole motor now.

Burned pistons or burned rods.
Do mean there were no bearing inserts in the rods?

The spacers between where the piston attaches to the crank. Some were in there and some weren't.

I hate to hear that, that's bad news. Those are your rod bearings. When they spin they destroy the surface of the crank. You can have the crank resurfaced, but if you've spun four its cheaper to replace the crank. Not to mention you don't know what the mains look like yet. If you've lost compression and have four spun rod bearings you may want to weigh your options of rebuilding vs. replacement engine. First thing would be to pull it out and tear it down. Let us know what you find.

We already tore it down and just went ahead and junked it. Cost too much around here to have it worked. Still looking for another motor. Trying to find a Vortec 350 to put in it.

Is it just the bottom end that got messed up? Just get a short block, then add all the original stuff to it.

Oh lord....should have sold it, would have got more out of it and someone else could have rebuilt it > people always scrap them even though they would make more actually selling it.
