The IROC-Z option was available on the Z28 and came with new larger 16x8 aluminum rims, P245/50VR-16 Z Rated Goodyear Gatorback tires, body colored valances, Delco-Bilstein rear gas shocks, special front struts, increased spring rates, `WonderBar' front frame rail stiffener, special valving in steering for increased steering effort, larger rear stabilizer bar with stiffer bushings, IROC-Z exterior decals and interior dash badge, and a thinner two-color lower body stripe. Once the 5.7L 350 engine was introduced, only the IROC-Z had the option of being powered by it. All Z28's came with a 5.0L 305 motor only, until after the IROC-Z option was dropped and GM went back to Z28 badging. One other thing to note is GM dropped the "Z28" badging for several years after 1987, so if you wanted a performance model, the only option was "IROC-Z"

RS had none of the above and was typically powered by a V6, however there was an option for a Carb'd 305 v8.

Not really all that surprised you see more of them since there were no Z28 badged cars from 1988 all the way through end of 1990 production. 1991 model year was when GM couldn't use IROC-Z anymore and rebadged as Z28.

That's correct except you could get a IROC-Z with 5.0/T5. I should know since mine is a 5.0/T5 even optioned with Bose sound system.

Read my post again, I said IROC was the only one that had the option of getting 5.7, not that it came standard. The base engine in IROC package was 5.0, so they are of course more common.
As far as the tranny goes, the only stipulation was that 5.7 had to be Auto, any other combination of auto/manual was possible on the smaller motor/packages. Mine has the Bose option too, but if I remember correctly, you could get that on the other packages like Z28 and Berlinetta.

My 88' irocz have 350 tpi with 700r4 rearend have 2.77 posi Borg Warner. Comes with t tops, A/C, Bose system, floor mats, door guard, cruise control, and hatch privacy roll. I always want have a irocz with 350 tpi with manual. I don't know why they don't make these.

They didn't make them cos the 5 speed sucks ***. The 350's may have been rated at 245 HP, at best. But they were also like 350 lbs/tq. The 5 speed would not have lasted very long. Especially under aggressive driving.

Idk.. This is just a guess. Cos there was only like 10-15hp difference between the 305 and 350. So

Yep. The T5 is only rated for around 300ft lbs of torque.

I'm running a t5 in mine with a 383 and its fragile. That's why I am planning a t56 swap here soon. They can handle it for a little while. My dad always wanted to go m22 on it but never did it
