Automatic transmission issue

I have a 1999 camaro z28 with the automatic transmission. The problem I'm having is you'll be going down the road and the car will be shifting fine. Then all of a sudden it starts acting like its slipping. If you pull over and kill it and crank it back up it shifts and works fine. The fluid and everything looks good and doesn't smell burnt. Any suggestions?

Is the SES light on?
Have you checked for codes?
Does the tachometer spike when it acts like it's slipping?

The sea light isn't on, the only code that is thrown is the air pump. The tach shoots up a little, and you can hear a whistling noise

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere.

Ill check that, what I can't figure out though is why it works fine after you kill it and start it back up. It's like it resets itself

Is the tranny slipping or is the torque converter unlocking and relocking?

Does it only seem to do it at a certain speed?

No when it does it it'll do it at any speed, just seems worse if you get on it to pass someone

I'm going to pull the filter tommorow and change it to make sure it's not plugged and starving the pump

Not sure if you you are still having an issue but my tranny was doing the same thing but wouldn't alway set off the light but it would throw out the p1860 code. I changed the filter and fluid and its been working fine since
