Cam search

Well I've decided to sell my big cam and got with a CheaTR v.3 cam, but found out thunder racing has closed the doors, and can't find the cam. So I'm hoping someone knows of one a similar cam. I want something that lopes like the cheatr cam and doesn't require alot of tuning and is kind of a sleeper

It isn't a cheater, but should qualify for your needs.
TSP 228R on a 112.
TSP has a few similar cams to the CheaTR as well. I think the Torquer series is somewhat close.

If you have the time, I recommend a custom grind. Off the shelf grinds are tried and true, but you can a little more out of it if you get your needs all met with a one-off grind.

Would I need a stall for that cam ? 112 lsa is but bigger than I was looking for was hoping to find a cam close to the cheater that didnt really need a tune or stall but would still gain around 40-50 rwhp. Trying to keep away from a stall because me and transmissions don't get along great

You will NEED a tune for ANY cam.
Stall you can get away with, but would be recommended.

I had a custom ground cam by COMP that was essentially a CheaTR v.3:
218/230 .605/.605 115+2 using XFI lobes

A tune is absolutely necessary even with a CheaTR v.3. If TR said that, they were full of shit.

I know it has to have a tune but I know guys that have still driven theirs without a tune for a week or two with no ill affect.
What springs did you go with and about how much did it run you if you don't mind

Patriot dual gold. I ran them even for a 575 lift cam.

You can get away without a tune. FOR A VERY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME!!! And stay off the gas.

I understand that it has to have a tune I just want something easy to tune so I can have my buddy base tune it enough to get me to the dyno tuner a few hrs away. I'm going to try and call tsp in the morning some time and see what they recommend

Most off-the-shelf cams are fairly "easy" to tune for a good tuner.
