I'm new to the F-body world, and this may be a common question, but I'm gonna ask anyways. I noticed that when I going full bore from a take off, I hear a clunk, more like the axle hit the floorboard. It does it again, but even more pronounced when at the 1-2 shift. Common? Easy Fix?
Its an 01 T/A WS6, 6 speed man. It has SLP exhaust on it if that helps any.
Thank you.
$20, takes about 20-30 mins to do. Plan on it breaking again too, until you man-up and buy a crossmember that moves the torque arm off of the rear of the transmission.
The description is pretty self explanatory. Basically, the torque arm setup is an excellent design but it has a few flaws. When you step on the gas hard, the wheels want to spin forward, which in turn wants to spin the rearend the opposite direction (simple physics). With a torque arm attached to the rear end, and then mounted 4 feet in front, it acts as sort of a lever (pivoting on the transmission) which drives the rearend down hard when you apply the gas. The only problem is that you need an extremely secure mounting place for it when you start making power, and a simple rubber piece just doesn't cut it. The crossmember bolts to the flooer, and then mounts the torque arm directly to the secure crossmember instead of the tail of the transmission which has the rubber mount.
that sounds like a heck of a deal. only thing I see an issue with is that it says you must use their torque arm or use the factory with a special bushing, which I didnt see. anyone know where I can get that bushing?
I am pretty sure you can use the stock bushing but you have to trim it down to fit. The stock "bushing" is just a hunk of rubber that the torque arm slides into.
thanks for the info, but I think I've already ordered the wrong part. As said earlier it's only a $20 dollar fix. I called the parts store and they didnt have any in stock, but could order one for $76, the stealership could get me one for $90. So i went to lsperformance and got one for $30, but it doesnt specify if its for a manual trans or auto trans.
Where do people get these $20 manual trans mounts?

I got mine from AutoZone. It was roughly $40 bucks. I believe the mount is the same whether manual or auto transmission.

Post #24 may be useful for you.
As you can see, cincybird98 changed his out, and he has an auto tranny, and he said his mount looked just like mine and I've got the 5 spd.
Good luck!
