So like the title says, I've been having an annoying vibration issue with my 93 Z/28 that appears to be coming from the rear end. I've checked for wheel bearing symptoms (side to side play in the wheels, etc) and am seeing none of those symptoms. It happens once the car goes above 10mph, gets a lot less noticable at speed (but still happens) and isn't really noticable while turning. The car does appear to pull to the right occasionally but that goes away. I should mention the car has C6 wheels on the rear end (the front end has been pretty much completely rebuilt suspension and handling wise) with no spacers. Could the spacers be the issue? Is it a tailshaft bearing issue? Am I giving enough information? :lol: [/B]
I've got spacers on the rear of my car haven't had any issues over the years, I wouldn't think that would be the issue. I'd check the u-joints next, it could be caused by a wearing pinion bearing but you can usually hear that along with a vibration
Could be the rear U-Joint. Or a tire out of balance. Spacers should not cause it unless they are not balanced, or unless the wheel(s) do not mount to them correctly. A bearing is usually noisy and would get worse (louder) at a higher speed.
Thats the thing though, the wheels didn't have any play in them like a wheel bearing, the u-joints appear to be fine with little to no play in them and it shakes at very low speeds (basically anything above 10mph). It does get worse the more the speed picks up. I'll balance the tires at work on Monday and see if that solves the issue. Could a misbalanced driveshaft cause that vibration?
So its looking more and more like the tailshaft bearing. Is it worth changing out myself or should I take it to a shop to get done?
