1974 Parts & Service Manuals
I'm working on a book about the history of Catalytic Converters. Almost all of the general information says that the first year they were fitted to cars was 1975.
But my 1974 Camaro had a Catalytic Converter.
I've tried talking to General Motors. Everyone who worked on the project back then is retired, and the information is gone. I've tried talking to the Environmental Protection Agency. They don't have information that far back either. I've tried the California Air Resources Board. They've got nothing.
General Motors apparently sold the parts books off to some company. I've tried calling them, but can never get through.
So, does anyone have the 1974 Parts and Service Manuals?
Engine was a 350 4-barrel
4-Speed Manual Transmission
I believe it had a 3.83 rear end, top speed at 6000 RPM was 120 MPH
I forget what the 1/4 mile time was now, that was over 30 years ago
Yes, it was a 1974, not a 1975. The 1975 had the wrap around rear window, the 1974 had a flat pane of glass. Think a 1973 with bumpers.
Also, does anyone know of any other 1974 GM cars that came with converters? I'm guessing that it would have been only cars with the 350-4BBL engine that would have been affected.
