How to program a new BCM?

BCM went bad, component on the board fried. Im going to order a brand new one. Now my question is, do i HAVE to get it programmed by Chevy or can I program it myself? And is it a PIA to do? Thanks.

You need to match the chip in the key to the BCM, which most likely means a new key.

As for programming the keyless entry, you can do that yourself.

Most likely not, because the resistor in your key chip will not match the BCM, unless you can specifically order it to match your chip / key.

Where are you getting the BCM?

Chevy dealer, because I most likely have to get it programmed there and gmpartsdirect.com is 7-10 business days to ship out. And right now it is extremely inconvenient to be out of a vehicle with college and work.

Not going to be cheap, but I expect it will be properly repaired.

$300 dollar part + programming. But oddly enough, I was determined to try to fix it (idk how, just to tinker and see if i could get it) and I AMAZINGLY succeeded. The tallest relay (i think) on the board was melted and underneath was just black all over, like it had exploded but it still standing. but anyway, I scraped off the burnt pieces of metal and plastic on the top and bottom of the board. I plugged it and and VOILA, lights turned on and everything was a go. Car started and everything. The only thing now is, when I turn the car off the radio stays on and the security light stays lit. I tried to start it and it works everytime. The only problem is the security light staying on and radio not turning off (i can do it manually not a biggy). Now my question is, do you think Ill run into a problem other then the security light? Basically, can I live with it the way it is.

If that is the case, the relay that went bad is the Retained Accessory Power relay.
Do your interior lights stay on?

You might be able to find a BCM at a salvage yard, and get the RAP relay from it.

Yeah, solder out the old one and solder in the new one. The only problem is that the board on that part is all black and melted. So my plan is drive it for now, and later on get the new BCM and have it programmed. Right now Im without the Radio shutting off when the car is turned off and the door is opened, and the alarm doesnt work when the car is locked and manually opened. Other then that the dome light, radio, power locks, power windows, keyless entry, and starter all work fine now. Thanks for the help though, appreciated.
