Nitrous will work for it, it'd be cheaper than a turbo or S/C build by far.

It will work until the motor lets loose. With a motor that old you should think about a rebuild with some modest upgrades like intake manifold and a cam.

Misread it at first, I would rebuild it of course. It's an old engine, most likely worn out. Gasket are probably deteriorated and so on. Rebuild the engine. Might as well do a turbo build since you'd be rebuilding the engine

engine rebuild 300-400 dollars
turbo build 20k. not seeing the "might as well" factor...

Depends how far he wants to take the rebuild, a rebuild to one person would be gaskets, rings, bearings and so on, while to a different could mean new crank, pistons, connecting rods, rings, bearings, head work, etc. If he's one of those people that change EVERYTHING. he might as well do so.

even at that stock rebuild is like 1500 dollars. turbo build is 20k.

hell a turbo build means a lot more than engine, it means tranny, rear end, etc

I was joking. But that's actually cool, how'd you get those? Maybe I would if I had a different car to put that motor in.

I'm into sandrails, and the old porsche motors are made to be mounted in the rear. Perfect for high powered rails. Dumb luck was out in cocoa beach, saw an estate sale, checked it out and the guy had a bunch of rail stuff from the 80s. lots of surface rust, the family in charge had no idea what it was and thought it was a pile of junk. walked away with enough parts to build two full buggies and about 3 half started buggies. got 2 porshe motors, a vw motor, bunch of parts. paid 500 bucks. they walked away happier than a hog in mud and so did I.

Why the **** would you put a bimmer drivetrain in a GM car what an awful idea... Hmm let me take a relatively low maintence setup and swap it with something that requires piss tons of maintence that not cheap either. Also no way in hell you could get an 8 series motor and trans and everything needed to swap for 5k. Shit you would spend 2k in electronic components alone.

Im all for cool ideas but that's rediclous and being a former BMW tech I would never swap bimmer stuff to another brand.
