LS1 engine, LS6 engine???

Does anyone know where I can buy a good LS1 engine(preferably used) in Texas? Should I buy one online? From EBay? Summit Racing? My dad had his 4x4 2003 Silverado(Z71) done at Nelson Performance in San Antonio, he swapped the 5.3 to the 6.0 himself. It is supercharged and has many add-ons. He smoked a supercharged SS camaro a few weeks back... Anyone live in Texas? It'd be nice to know someone else who does.

There are several members from Texas. As for an LS1/6....... Local salvage yard, Craigslist, classified section of your local newspaper. Or maybe the company you already mentioned

Wait, you don't trust ordering one, but will check a salvage yard? I'm not saying don't get one from a junkyard, because I've gotten engines out for $160 and they lasted me 75-100,000 miles as a race car and a daily driver... Just saying that's not the greatest logic.

What I meant was it may have been a scam, or something I did not want, but if I buy it from a junk yard I actually see it and know what I am purchasing. I understand where you're coming from though.

Your taking just as much of a risk at a junk yard. Who knows what problems led it to being in a junk yard.

Expand your horizon my friend.

Hawks has some for sure. Pricey but your getting decent pulls

I'm sure there are good yards out there. But that's why its called junk. Unless you get to break down the motor, or hear it run, your pretty much taking their word for it, and not to say things aren't good, but its a gamble.

Anything is a gamble when you pull from a yard. We once bought a wiper motor for my wifes 86 Camaro, and the 86 firebird we pulled it from, just had us replace our lack there of with a motor that didn't work. Just ended up grabbing one from autozone. We did use the dust cover from the crap motor. Good times..

What would be a good price if I were to price one? In your opinion.

Depends if you're wanting a long block, short block, complete motor with accessories, stock, not stock, etc.

Understood, I was wanting a short block that was stock and came with all of the accessories... I'm new to this stuff so I don't really know what I should be looking for...
I kind of decided I wanted something fast so I traded my camouflage jacked up V6 4x4 93' Chevrolet Cheyenne for this Firebird and i really don't know where to start.
