Silencing exhaust rattle

My y-pipe has been rattling against a heat shield at certain rpms. I've already repositioned the pipe as far from it as possible but there is just so little clearance. I would just cut the shield off but it's around the brake lines and kind of important. I thought about wedging some insulation material in between but I don't know if that would help at all. Any tips on preventing the rattle?

Try and bend the heat sheild towards the lines. Is it hitting the lines and not the pipe? Can try insulating between lines and sheild.

Just wrap some header wrap around the pipe where it touches the shield.

Its not hitting the lines so I will try bending it away from the pipe as much as can.

i will try doing this also if I'm unable to make any more clearance. Its all so close to the floor its hard to actually see the spacing but I'll just have to try it and listen for vibrations. Thanks for the ideas

A lot of times if you're manifold bolts have not been tightened down equally, you will have a constant rattle because the y pipe doesn't want to stay in one place when the transmission shifts.

That's a thought, however it only does it occasionally at very low rpms and only when taking off in 1st. I just bought some header wrap that I'm going to put on the exhaust tomorrow to hopefully create a pad between the pipe and the heat shield and quiet the rattle. Now that you mention it, it's been about 100 miles since installing the headers so it wouldn't hurt to check and re-torque the bolts anyways.

On my '98 Firebird, I had a similar rattle that actually turned out to be the catalyst inside the converter broken loose and just floppin around. It eventually got to the point where the honeycomb wore down just enough to lodge inside the pipe and blocked 90% of flow. I seriously thought the engine blew because the exhaust got really quiet and the car wouldn't move. CHECK INTO IT!!!!!!!
