Default Transmission Fluid Change

Anyone have any quick links or guides to changing the transmission fluid in a 97 v6 auto? I have had the fluid and seals for a while now, just never got around to doing it. Just lookin for a guide before I start lookin for my Haynes or Chiltons. Thanks

How many miles does the car have. If you don't change the trans fluid every 50,000 miles from new, i wouldn't recommend changing it if you have high miles. You will most likely blow out seals and mess up the transmission. Dirt builds up and if you flush it out it will clear all that out and the trans will start to slip.

Just from what i've seen .

I was actually thinking about doing this myself. As far as I know it has not been changed and I just ticked over to 68k. Too long to start now?

d'oh! we did the first change at 135K and its slipping now... I didn't think that it had anything to do with that, but maybe it does... manual swap FTW!

So do you just never change the fluid then?
I'm guessing you just gotta do a complete overhaul with the fluid change, including gaskets, seals, etc, yes?

it has about 148k... If I remember correctly the manual said to do it at 100k, sorta missed it ha. I have 2 seals, one for the pan, and another small one cant remember which Id have to look. I have also heard that, but yes along with what was said above, so I just dont change it then??

When I do maintenence, I do it right, so by all means if theres any other seals or such you recommend changing name them. Anything short of the transmission itself of course haha. Around 150k, Im not looking to put much more into this car before selling it, I just figured 148k is a lot of shit built up over time, wouldnt hurt to change it.... You can see why in my intro post I wanted to put this up for sale now haha.

Probably be better off just driving it until it dies then rebuilding it then. It'll give you time to save up some money for a rebuild

And personally on my car it only has 42k on it, so i'm no where near 100k mark to change it. But i think i'm going to change mine at 50k just to be safe.
