correct type of paint for black top of z28

Hi Everyone,
my 98 Z28 is white with black top.. the white paint is about perfect, but the black areas on top and sides of the top all are showing some wear and spots. the material/paint looks differant than the body, can someone explain to me if its a diffferant type of paint job or is the top a differant material? it looks glassier.. i am sure you all kmow what i mean, my old 94 was all red. not sure if this is something i can buff out somehow or if i need to have it repainted.
thanks,
Sincerely,
Lori

It's all the same, just a different color.

Garage
Is the clear coat failing?
Black always looks glossier than other colors IMHO.

thanks, i bet its the clear coat then, it has dull areas and faded spots .. not real bad but noticeable, i am thinking the body was painted at one time and it was nicely done, but the black areas are original.. the little triangular bits between roof and passenger window are the most faded, worse than the roof ( wow, i am so bad at describing this)
maybe a good waxing with that Magwyers , Maguires, cant spell it, black wax will help for now.
Sincerely,
Lori

Got pics of problem areas?
Are you seeing what looks like the sail panel has zits/bubbles? Usually a problem with 99-02 models but there are reports of some 98's having the issue too. Gassing of the glue used by GM ruins the paint underneath and can only be truly fixed by replacing the sail panel completely. The part is no longer in production except for 6LE's aftermarket replacement- which also may disappear soon with his reports of closing up shop here in the next month.
