I'd be curious too. I've seen those dash pads everywhere online.
I got a rookie question, are they just to hide or replace cracked dashes or are they like a "pad" that you can put over your dash... Like a cover? My dash is fine, no cracks or anything, it looks great, just wondering. They look kinda cool.

this, they are a hard plastic cover that goes over the cracked section.

Why is it a waste?
It's a direct replacement for the OEM one and a lot cheaper than one from GM.

actually, your wrong. they go on top of the cracked one, read the description closely.

" It is installed over top of the original dash, and is held in place with silicone adhesive (provided)"

Ah, didn't read that part.
Way over priced then, it's 2/3rds the cost of the real thing.

You should also invest in a Dash Mat Cover (the carpet kind) to protect your new dash from the heat. I recently got one, and while I dont particularly enjoy it, it serves a purpose, doesnt look too bad, and was cheap to buy. Saves you the trouble of having to spend another $500 later on.

My dash pad is cracked in two places now. One happened while sitting in a parking lot during school. (Sun shade in place on a hot day) and the other happened while the car was sitting in the cool garage over the weekend while I was out of town... Such an eye sore

It's plastic. After years of sitting in the sun, being heated and cooled it gets brittle and it's no secrete these cars flex some. All of this combined makes them crack.

Yep, and when I went to install the new one, the cracked one shattered like glass when I took it out.

Mine shattered like that so when I pulled my dash for the cage. When I took the one out of my parts car I put the car out in the sun in the middle of summer and put a space heater in the car. Still cracked it but didnt shatter it so Ill probably epoxy the crack and wrap it in pleather.
