My BLS HID Install

I must have been one of the last people to order from the first Blackbird Lighting Solutions Group Purchase (from a different F-body forum) as I received my 5000k/55w low beam only kit on May 10th. It took about 1 day of time over the course of 2 days to install due to fitment/alignment issues. Day 1 everything was completed except for alignment due to the 2.5" screw/spring combo that was shipped was not the correct part. The screw was too long or the springs were too short and the headlight wouldn't close properly if the light was aligned properly. Now the screw is short and the headlights can't get the full left/right spread, but they are the correct height and almost at the correct left/right spread, and just as important - the lights sit properly when closed. I also took a grinder and shortened the top alignment fork on both brackets, and increased the size of the headlight cover mounting tab slot on the drivers side bracket. This was to allow the light to be adjusted more smoothly and not bind on the headlight assembly. Spent about two hours aligning the hood and headlight covers to get them opening/closing correctly with acceptable body line gaps between the covers and the hood - it was a bitch and a half because it somehow shifted during my install and they are not easy to align on my car since the upper brackets are almost maxed out - one side doesn't want to move in the correct direction, and the other side is completely rearward. Oh, and another thing to note - the passenger side projector wire was being pinched in between the bracket and the projector module every time I closed the headlights. It got to the point where one of the wires got cut and I saw sparks fly when I turned on the headlight, so I had to do some wire taping (read: re-insulating) and re-routing along with trying to mount the projector unit higher on the alignment pegs (which is what prompted my grinding of the top of the brackets).

As far as I know, my car has never been in a front end collision. No body damage or suspicious paint work on any part of the chassis. I don't know why the factory brackets were such a bitch to deal with, or why the hardware included in the kit works for others but not for me.

Regardless, I am EXTREMELY happy with the light output and the visual appearance of them when they are on or off (but still visible). Many thanks to Brian for going through the trouble of mass-producing these for us!

Anyways...

Pics & captions:

Unboxing

Clear protective lens

Assembled the projector to the bracket, but didn't like the large sections of aluminum showing through, so I quickly painted the brackets after a cleaning with Windex

Cleaned the acrylic fascia with detail spray and a microfiber prior to installing the weatherstripping and protective plastic outer lens.

Wiring installed - can you spot it?

Here is where I put the fuse/relay

Velcro'd the ballasts here on the frame rails

The screws I bought as a quick fix to get the headlights mounted and aimed safely & properly. Ones included in the kit are 2.5" and hit the radiator core support, preventing the headlights from closing all the way

Before

After

Headlights closed, DRLs on

Covers could still use a little more work with alignment, but they're a lot better than before. At almost every other angle it looks perfect. I'll get the cover alignment done in the next few days.

I will take some night shots later tonight or tomorrow night.

Nice install! Have been wanting projectors for awhile...

P.S. Have you had any legal trouble with the clear DRLs? I have been debating putting clears in mine.

P.P.S. I have not forgot I got to show you the mounting brackets for my DRLs

White DRL's are perfectly legal in the US. Do you think Audi/BMW/MBZ/Lexus/GM break the law by selling their vehicles with white/clear tungsten running lights? I drove right past a cop who was sitting in a lot next to a stop sign staring right at me, waiting for something illegal to happen.
