Question Security light staying on during driving

The security symbol is staying on while the car is on in my 97 v6. Any ideas how to make it turn off. Not a problem just a annoyance. Funny part is I do security.

I had that happen when the metal tabs on the chip in the key had worn off.
Try the spare key if you have one, or get a new one from the dealer.

I had the same issue about 3 years ago. I used the same key for 110,000 miles. Then one day the car would not start and the security light was on. Went to the back-up key I was given when i bought the car and it was starting normally, but the security light has never gone away. I tried all the tricks but that damn light is still on.

Do you do the 10 minutes in run thing?
Turn the key to run but don't start the engine.
Leave it at least 10 minutes minimum.
Then turn it off, remove the key.
Insert the key and start the engine.

Then you might have the broken wire issue, better get it fixed or bypass it before you get stranded with a no start situation.

Yeah, the wires that go to the lock contacts that read the key chip sometimes break inside the steering column from being turned back and forth.

You can read out the wires with a multimeter at the connection under the dash to check continuity.
Obviously the key would need to be in the ignition but not turned on.

You can also search: VATS bypass
using this forums search feature.
