1986 Firebird Can't Figure Out What's Wrong?

Okay guys this is my first post here but I really need some help I can't seem to figure out what's wrong.

So my car kept dying when I turned the key and wouldn't stay running unless I primed it or held the pedal to keep RPM's up. So immediately I thought it was a fuel problem so I changed the fuel filter and it didn't help.

Eventually I figured out it was my timing chain so I replaced that. I sealed everything up and timed the car properly and now it wants to stall when I put a load on the car. I turned up the throttle and re-timed it and now it seems sluggish into about 2-3rd gear. It almost feels like it's stuck in overdrive maybe? When the car is at idle I can rev up and the car acts normal but once I put it in drive I can floor it and there just seems to not be any power going to the wheels until about 30 mph then it starts to act normal.

I'm not sure what's wrong and I'm not very well versed when it comes to anything transmission wise. I also tried to see if it was throwing a code but the check engine like won't come on even when I use the prong thing and touch A and B, I even tried buying an OBD1 scanner to see if it was throwing codes and it didn't pop up with anything either (I'm not sure if those lights just won't turn on since they don't blink when I turn the key or if it's just not throwing a code at all).

Thanks everyone!

Garage
Are you checking for codes when the car is running?

You said you replaced the fuel filter, did you consider the fuel pump as well?

I can't check the codes because idk if the check engine light just won't come on or if the lights just don't work and since it's OBD1 it's a passive system so even if it was throwing a code I probably wouldn't know.

Update: I remember when I was pulling the water pump when I changed the timing chain I scraped it up against a sensor which I believe is the TPI. I ordered one from AutoZone and will change it tomorrow. Will update again tomorrow.
