Ignition Key Lock Stuck ON

My ignition key lock is stuck on... I knew the key switch was going.. just been putting off fixing it (because i can remove the key while running).

Well it's stuck ON, and I had to kill my car using.... other... methods... and disconnect the battery so the accessories would go off.

Now my question is.. how do I remove the key cylinder? :S And can I run my car without it (old screwdriver method). My Pass-Key is inoperative.

Shit shit shit... Gotta pull the steering wheel and all kinds of bullshit. This would happen to me on the verge of my day off. And I'm eleven miles from home. It's gonna be hell finding this 50 dollar part tommorrow.

Yes but I'm not gonna shut it off again. I don't want to stall it or pull a vacuum hose or something worse... I'm just gonna push her into a parking spot here (at the office) and start early in the morning. Get a damn ... haynes manual, steering wheel puller, and whatever tools I'll need.. It looks like it's a common ignition switch. "ACD1456C". I think my local GM Dealership should have one. They go for about 45-65 dollars.

There are a million easier ways to stall the motor, geez. Take a thick glove and yank the coil wire off, reach under the dash and pull the fuel pump fuse, etc......

This is sarcasm right? Leaving the car in gear and letting out the clutch has got to be the easiest way to stall the engine.

No it's not sarcasm. I didn't know it was a stick. That's not really good for the clutch to do that.

Manual drivers stall out... frequency depends on driver and their skill level, but, still. It cant be THAT bad... can it?

It's not. Just takes a few miles out of the clutch.

I slept at the office last night, got up and walked to Autozone (next block) this morning. Checked out the Haynes manual procedure for changing the ignition switch.... bummmp that. Carried to the GM Dealer. Should be fixed in an hour or so (been there for about seven hours.)

You don't want to know how much it's going to cost.

You can find the switch online for about $46 dollars + Shipping, but you have to program the pass lock or whatever and a bunch of stuff I didn't feel like messing with so I'd rather have a delco part and installed professionally. $290 bucks.

They had to swap out the whole assembly that your key is linked to right? Mine ran me like 300+ bucks when my Security light wouldn't go out and the car wasn't recognizing the key every time. Twas real gay. I feel your pain.

Just an update. Got it back yesterday. Works great. $356 dollar repair bill. I paid it... went home and cried a little (just kidding). I did grit my teeth when I threw them benjamins.

Sounds about right. I think that's close to what I paid for mine. Twas fail. I may have shed a tear at the time. I was jobless and barely had money to make payments.
