Hello from Upstate N.Y.

Recently purchased a 2002 Camaro SS. Just joined to get advice on common problems with these cars, previously owned 79 Z28,454, turbo 400, 10bolt 3.42. This is my first LS powered car and looking forward to enjoying the newer technology. My first project is a rear end rebuild, then removing factory power steering cooler. I look forward to chatting with everyone!

Welcome !!!
Yes, the factory power steering cooler needs to eliminated. I know this from experience.

Rear-end rebuild?

Yes, I drove it from Columbus OH. to NY. and it developed a pretty loud whine under acceleration and rumble on deceleration. Im getting ready to pull the axles and inspect them, then do bearings and seals w/ fluid change and see how it sounds before a complete rebuild. I know these cars are noted for this problem, this one got pretty loud.
