Speaker Install - FAQ

Just some helpful info/pictures for those of you wanting to upgrade your speakers.

Camaro Zone - licont's Album: Speaker Install

Rear trunk speaker install [Front Side]. Got some bolts, nuts, and washers from an auto parts store, fits like a glove. Had to drill some holes since the factory ones didn't quit line up. Its best to drill the opposite corners since the factory holes are only on 2 corners.

Will be uploading more pictures soonish (I need to go and take more pictures of the finished stuff and the unfinished stuff).

So for those of you wondering where/how/what speakers to get, here is where I got mine. Firebird and Camaro Speaker Package
The guy behind KeeAudio.com has personally hand picked speakers that will fit in our cars without ANY body/panel modifications. Most of the factory holes still work (I only had to drill 3 holes for the rear trunk speakers but the speakers themselves were the same size, just the holes didnt line up). He also has great customer service, I emailed him before ordering with a few questions, got a reply with all my questions answered in about 2 hours. Had a few more questions once I started the install, he answered them all promptly, very helpful.

I strongly recommend some Dynamat if you're going to get one of these speaker package upgrades though. I was shocked how much of a difference it makes having the new speakers/subs in, so I had to get some dynamat all around. (some pictures of that coming soon too)

Here is the front Monsoon system connectors (speaker/tweeter coaxial connector) after removal and soldering some nice new wire.

Quote:
This is the front speaker connection after removing it from the old speakers and soldering some nice new wires onto it to give a little bit extra wiggle room. You will notice some masking tap on a few of the wires with some lettering. Using a wiring guide I found online I predetermined which wires went to the speakers and which ones went to the coaxial tweeter (if you own a model with the monsoon system you might have a speaker+tweeter coaxial front system, in which case you will need to make sure you know which wires are which if you want to reuse the factory harness).
And here is the wiring guide I found over at ls1tech.com. Monsoon FAQ - LS1TECH

When I did my speaker install I rewired everything with 14ga gold wire wrapped in a wire loom then wrapped again in some insulating wrap to avoid interference. the wire in my car was old and dry rotted
