T56 Trans question??

My 98 Z28 has some problems with the tranny! It goes into 2nd gear but does not engage and cherps going into 3rd.. Is this a syncro problem or something worse??

Are you sure it's all the way in second, and not hung up on skip shift.
Also, "what" chirps in third, the tranny or the tires.

The tranny cherps into 3rd! Yes its all the way in 2nd when i let the clutch out you can hear the gear but it dont slip in. And it'll cherp the tires in third or go completely sideways. Its a powerhouse..

Sounds like someone shoulda bought an auto... lol

Joking aside, try going nice and slow, don't pop the clutch or slam on the gas. Also try shutting the car off, put it in second and hold the clutch in start car and try taking off. If it works then, you may have a bad synchro. Third gear is chirping or going sideways because your on the throttle way too hard for normal driving. 2nd gear is either not engaging because of a bent shifter possibly or a bad synchro. Does 4th and 6th work fine?

Sounds like you've trashed the shift linkage or the synchros.
Those of us with T56s are well aware of being able to get sideways in third.

Well im not slammin it into gear or dropping the clutch third gear just chirps up or down shifting.. Even driving normal... I am going to try the second gear thing and see if it works! So from what you guys are saying, i gather that more than likely the syncros are bad... And yes 4, 5, 6 and reverse all work great!
