Also does it seem to be coming from the top or bottom of the engine? Metal shavings/powder in oil?

I wouldn't be concerned as much over fire as over oil pressure. The tag on mine said this: before the start, you crank it with the fuel pump disabled (I did this by pulling the fuse) until oil...
