Nice list... granted the late 70's and 80's v8's where slow do to all the emissions stuff, a 4th gen v6 is better then a 3rd gen v8

That was a joke lol. In reality your talking 230-300 depending on a lot of factors. And I completely disagree with you on the best car ever. I have a V6 Firebird and a Z06 and I love both cars equally.
best car for the price read it carefully. n thats just an opinion

V8s are awesome but sometimes over-rated. I'm still driving my 6 cylinder. However, I'm looking to move up and get a Corvette because I don't feel like spending more money on a 12 year old car. I want something more recent with good power. I'll be able to afford it after college soon :D .

This thread has me looking at trans am :/ haha went and looked at it yesterday. 99 with 65k miles. t tops auto. There asking 8k. Cars needs ALLOT of TLC, the interior is dirty (owner was mechanic) paint needs lots of buffing. both window motors shot. Car started for first time in 6 months while I was there. It puffed a little black smoke when he revved it (maybe for sitting for so long?). Its got me interested, but the price is a little high for how beat up and neglected it is. it hasnt been inspected since 07'!

I wouldnt give him more then 6k tbh... my car with 170k miles is in much better condition then that
Finaly said something we could agree on. :D

Cars def. not worth 8k$. Most hi mileage ls1's here in rough shape go for around 3-5k$ where I live.

Good condtion ls1's go for around 5-8k$.

Sounds decent to me, if it has 65k miles. The interior can be fixed and cleaned, you can buff the paint, and use the dead window motors as an opportunity to install the Autrix window kit, so you can have your cake and eat it too, since it repairs the motors and rolls them up faster and lowers them faster than stock motors :D

What color is it? Pics? any funny noises. If it's mainly mechanically sound, I'd do it

I used to be part of the V6s are the shit crowd. But after swapping in a LS1 i just cant turn back. So i Know where you V6 guys are coming from. I was about to spend about as much money on my V6 as my LS1 swap and still would have been slower, lol.

Man, seriously, These cars can be made faster than ls1's pretty cheaply also. One guy gutted his and did full bolt-ons, 4.10's and was outrunning ls1's.

You just gotta know what you're doing.

You know how fast stock GN's and TTA's are, on low boost from the factory? You throw on a turbo kit on these cars and you'll be doing really good.

These 3.8's are proven to be able to handle over 20 psi if you got the means of tuning and know what you're doing.

I've seen it personaly. :)

I like the concept of maxing out the V6. It sits further back, is way lighter on the nose of the car. The only hicup about the 6 is it just does'nt sound as mean as a V8. I like a good handling car with power, if I could plug and play a V6 I would, and you guys and gals have seen my Camaro album. I built the engine myself. I was thinking of picking up a 3.8 just to tear it down and build it back up with some goodies, then take a weekend and throw it in. Worries about Jack-ass NJ inpection is the only thing stopping me.

I have 4.10 gears in my car. Comparing times between my old 6 and my 8 the 6 would keep up with my LS1 till about 30 then after that the LS1 walks hard. The GN does not use the same 3.8 either. Im not saying that a V6 cant be faster than a V8. What I am saying is there is so much money and work required to get to keeping up with a stock LS1. Find someone with track times better than mine with a V6 Camaro that is still NA. My setup is completely stock except 4.10 gears. My friends old 98 Monte Carlo with ported M90, XP Hotcam, headers, exhaust, injectors, larger throttle body and a good tune could just run with me. I was .2 seconds faster in the 1/8 but I was on the shitty track and he was on the good one. Its gonna take more than a bolt on 3.8 to beat me.

edit: Idk why you guys keep talking about weight so much. The LS1 is all alm and the 3.8 is cast iron block. If I am not mistaken they are very close in weight.

I think this discussion was already over in this thread, why are you randomly bringing it back up? Im pretty sure you've already stated this same thing twice already.

And yes, I plan on trying to talk the owner down. There was a squeak coming from one of the pulleys, and also the AC wasnt coming on. The motor sounded great though.

Also another thing, the front passenger tire was flat, and in the wheel well pretty much all that plastic lining had been removed. Makes me nervous like they hit something. I feel like If I can get him down to 6.5 i might have to give it a go.

Nah, doesn't mean he crashed. My wheel well was rubbing against my tires as I moved and for the longest time I thought it was something rubbing against the steering column or inside somewhere in the engine bay when I made turns, until I began installing headers and noticed that my wheel well was torn to shit. Can't believe it took me a week to notice -_-

Wow you guys pretty much succeed in making me depressed about having a V6 everytime i get on here. :(

I love my w68, it is in near mint condition and looks amazing. Turns heads wherever i go, but damn people stop being douche bags!

Im currently putting an Eaton M90 SC in plus a new cam, headers, heads and everything else i need and still IS NOT costing me what it would to buy a $10,000-$14,000 dollar ws6. Which is what i normally see them selling for. Im just trying to enjoy the car i have cause no matter what there will always be a better, faster, newer car out there that i will never own. :)
