Hey everyone, I'm interested in purchasing a car starter for my 98 camaro. Reason being is because i moved to Montana from California and it is ridiculously cold and I hate having to sit in my car and freeze until the car warms up... So basically my question is what kind of diagram do I need to look at for the car? The Remote starter kit already comes with a diagram of its own. But I need to know what I need to look at for as far as the car... I plan on doing it myself. I read up on the starter kit and it's not difficult to install, as long as you have both diagrams.

Why not just wait inside the house while the car warms up? :dunno:
"what kind of diagram do I need to look at for the car? The Remote starter kit already comes with a diagram of its own." This pretty much answers itself.
The diagram that come in the kit should include the remote starter AND the car.

You're correct, but the owner I bought the car for never got the remote for the alarm system for some reason.
You can get new key fobs for the factory alarm. There are ALOT of options for car alarms/remote start/keyless entry's......... Just depends on what you are looking for it to do or want it to do. Where do you plan to purchase from? Local? eBay? Amazon? This will limit your options. Do you plan on installing yourself?

Yep, go to your local GM dealer, they can tell you which key fob you need. They can even sell you one and program it for you. If you knew which specific key fob your car uses, you could buy the key fob elsewhere and program it yourself, which would be about half the cost a dealer would charge.

If you can find exactly which key fob you need, just purchase one and program it. A lot of key fobs sold on ebay come with programming instructions. OR, go to a GM dealer and tell them you need a new key fob for your car, they can also hook you up, but this usually costs a little more. After you get a working key fob, then get a remote starter kit like the one I post before and install it with the factory keyless entry (alarm)

You are welcome.
If you DO Get a factory key fob and want to program it yourself, here is the programming procedure:
http://www.programyourremote.com/classified/DisplayAd.asp?id=261

1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
2. Remove the RADIO fuse.
3. Cycle the ignition switch from the OFF position to the RUN position (as far as you can go without
cranking the engine) 3 times within 5 second ending in the RUN position. The vehicle will verify
entry into the programming mode by locking then unlocking the door locks.

4. Press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the first transmitter for approximately
15 seconds. The vehicle will verify programming by locking then unlocking the door locks. Your
new remote has been accepted and all existing remote codes have been erased.

5. Repeat the previous step for each additional transmitter (including any existing transmitters). You
may program up to 4 transmitters. This must be done before the RADIO fuse is reinstalled.

6. Place the ignition switch in the OFF position. IMPORTANT: The remote keyless entry system
will not be operational if the radio fuse is open.

7. Replace the RADIO fuse. If at any time it is necessary to restart the procedure, turn the ignition
OFF and proceed again with step number 1.

So I've been looking around and for me to buy a factory fob + the add on factory starter! it would probably come out to be more money than a whole new system. The thing is that with a whole new system, they aren't to expensive but yet, I'm guessing they cost more because it's harder to be installed. Does that sound about right?

Yes, a whole new system is harder to install, but no, factory key fob and that remote start I posted before, would be cheaper. if you can find out what key fob you need, you could purchase it on eBay for around $30, program it yourself, then get that remote start I posted for $90, that's only a total of $120, this you can install yourself...........
A whole new system would be a lot more than that.... then you would need to have it installed.
